Atlanta Holiday Staycation!
The holiday season is upon us and as a parent it means lots of planning, stress, and for some of us tighter pants. A little break from the chaos and crowds—sans kids—might be in order!
Last year, my husband and I took a holiday "staycation" in Atlanta and it was exactly what we needed to unwind and de-stress during this jolly time of year.
Atlanta is the perfect place for a parents' weekend getaway filled with holiday cheer. I love spending time with my family over the holidays experiencing all the Christmas and holiday spirit Atlanta has to offer. From the Botanical Gardens festive lights and visiting Santa at the magical Santa’s Fantastical in Sandy Springs, Metro Atlanta is an amazing area to experience holiday cheer for families and adults alike.
But amid the hustle and bustle, downtime is much needed. When we decided on a staycation last year, the first order of business was finding supervision for my kiddos the night we were away. So, I called up my mom and asked if she would be okay watching the girls for a night while she was visiting. Of course, she agreed, knowing better than anyone how important one-on-one adult time every now and then is for parents. I was so-o-o excited to explore and discover the after-six. holiday spirit Atlanta offers.
Where to Stay in Midtown Atlanta:
For our staycation, we picked the Renaissance Atlanta Midtown Hotel because the location in Midtown is central and my husband had a free night voucher that needed cashing in. We were pleasantly surprised by the modern and stylish renovation that recently had taken place at the hotel. The rooms had amazing art that incorporated the city as well as the lobby décor, and all the interior design was trendy and most definitely Instagram ready.
Another hotel I recommend is the W Hotel - Atlanta Midtown. We stayed there this summer for our anniversary staycation and would go back again. They recently renovated and their new décor is fabulous. If you're more into the Airbnb feel and experience (LINK), there are several options in Midtown worth checking out as well. Airbnb would be an excellent option if when considering a night out with a group of friends! However, there is something to be said about a hotel with walking access to restaurants and bars.
Christmas Bars in Atlanta!
Speaking of bars, if you have not already heard of Miracle Bar, holiday pop-up bars in Atlanta, you are missing out! We went to Miracle on Monroe @tapatapaatlanta however visit their website for more locations in town! They have three locations this year and I’m excited to try out another one soon!
The bars are decorated TOP to BOTTOM in holiday cheer—even the bathrooms! They leave no stone unturned when it comes to decorations. You walk in and all you hear is loud (especially for us older folks) Christmas music playing, with patrons singing along as they sip on Christmas-themed drinks and nibble on the holiday-inspired menu.
Note: If you want to get a seat you MUST be there right when they open to get up on the reservation list. We got there right as they opened and there was a line that was about 50 deep. Our reservation was for 10 p.m. So around a five-hour wait. I suggest getting there as early as possible and finding a restaurant nearby for dinner and drinks. You will be texted when your spot opens—but you only have 10 minutes for getting back there or you lose it. So be mindful of your time!
I WILL say it is well worth the hassle to experience the Miracle Bars firsthand. This is not something you can do with your kids, so make it the perfect mom and dad night out! If you go to the Miracle bar on Monroe, pop over to Park Tavern and enjoy an adult beverage and some ice-skating. They are right on the edge of Piedmont Park and their holiday vibe is in full bloom this time of year with the ice skating rink.
If you plan on spending the entire day in Atlanta taking in the holiday spirit,
here are a few more activities to check ouT:
Skate the Station & Santa's Cottage - Atlantic Station
Shop Atlanta Christkindl Market - Centennial Olympic Park
Rent a scooter and ride along the Beltline Shop around Ponce City Market and enjoy the holiday décor
Take in Candlelight Nights at the Atlanta History Center
Garden Lights and Holiday Nights at the Atlanta Botanical Garden
There is so much to do in Atlanta with or without kids! Our holiday staycation in Atlanta was one of the highlights of my year. I recommend checking out a Miracle bar or two even if you can’t spend the evening in the city! The excursion would make a fun group date night, too!
Happy Holidays, Everyone!
