Flying with Kids Post Pandemic
There was a time we thought this day would never come and honestly, it was a family tragedy that pushed us back into traveling with our kids. Like most of you, we were and still are hesitant to fly with our girls (seven and three) for many reasons.
The obvious threat of illness and the federal mask travel requirements in place for all kids over age two.
The anxiety of traveling with a three-year-old who’s spent most her life at home! Yikes!
I have always been a “take ‘em with” kind of parent but this last 18 months has changed things. I’m tired, anxious and just not terribly excited about the thought of getting it all together to travel with our slightly difficult three-year-old.
My second grader is a GREAT traveler, and this gives me a sense of comfort as we approach our first cross-country journey post pandemic as a family of four. Our three-year-old is the sweetest girl most of the time, but her nickname is sour patch kid. Need I say more?
Preparations for Flying with my Three Year Old
First: I am taking a few deep breaths as I prepare for our journey! As previously mentioned, my anxiety around just getting out with my kids has been a struggle this past year. But as we’ve started going out and about more around our hometown this has eased up, and I am getting a peek at that end-of-tunnel light people talk about.
Second: I am revisiting my old packing lists and in-flight snack ideas, toys and distractions and revamping them to accommodate the times. I will share those with you soon!
Third: We are talking about it a lot with our youngest, mentioning that she will need her mask and how much of a “big girl” she is to be going on the airplane. (TBD if that will help at all.)
Finally: I am making sure we are all ready to go in advance so the days before we depart are stress free and enjoyable.
